the location:
The Kunstpunkt Darmstadt gallery is located on the mezzanine floor of a residential building in a 20 square metre square shop - a former grocery shop. The shop window in the room itself reaches down to the floor. The entrance leads into the stairwell.
I removed the carpet and the floor tiles, moved the built-in wall (which was supposed to cover a door)
away from the brick wall by 40cm (1.2), just far enough so that you could look between them but not go in. Parallel to the switched-off gallery spotlights, I placed a row of fluorescent tubes as a light source (also 40cm away from the window) (3).
window) (3) and closed the shop window from the outside with roof battens (5). It was no longer possible to see into the room from the street.
Footprints on the tiled floor showed the imprints of a sales counter of the grocer's shop (4).
The door could now be seen behind the shifted wall. The room was evenly lit. All the elements of this gallery were no longer functional.
