In search of such an image, I chose clichéd popular motifs from various cultures around the world. From this visual material I 'modulated' the work “Heimat im Überall”. The individual motifs nestle together fragmentarily, change and set each other in motion.
This work reminds me of the funfair carousel in my home village in the Odenwald, which makes me smile, because it looks as if the very idea of home in the work is looking for something private and romantic.
This work was created as part of the project: “I wish China . . . by Danyang Zhao (artist, curator)
She asked passers-by in China what they wished for their country.
In Berlin, she asked artists to develop a work based on one of these wishes. I chose: “I wish all Chinese people were free to come and go as they please, so that they can see the world”.
Traveling is a form of collecting: you collect fragments of what you have perceived, seen and experienced. In the course of the journey, they come together to form a picture. This idea determined my approach to this work. I captured the part of the journey I had to make from my studio to the gallery as a short 'journey' in the picture.
